This is a very famous region in the west of Annapurna Himalayan belt dominated by Mount Dhaulagiri (8167m). Most probably Dhaulagiri region in Nepal is well known for remote and adventurous trekking. In this region, we find more than fifteen 7,000m magnificent peaks with the diverse landscape from tropical to alpine. Rhododendron forests ablaze with red and pink color in the spring and other tiny alpine flowers above the tree line in the mountain tantalize every trekker and nature lovers alike.
Dhaulagiri trekking journey begins after an 8-hour spectacular drive from Kathmandu to Beni Bazaar and then walk toward the northwest direction along the Myagdi River through several villages. While trekking we pass through farming lands, rice terraces, ferns and forest of oak and other deciduous trees and juniper enjoying the magnificent views of the Annapurna Himalayas until we reach the base camp of Dhaulagiri, one of the most challenging mountains in the world to climb.
After crossing the French Pass (5,360m.) the trail joins the most popular trekking route of Yak Kharka and Jomsom. From the Hidden Valley, you will cross Dhampus Pass and continue trek to Yak Kharka. Next day you will make a steep descent to Jomsom, where you will meet other trekkers who have descended from the Thorong La Pass on the Annapurna Circuit trek. It is at Yak Kharka you can choose either longer trail back to Beni or end the trek in Jomsom and fly to Pokhara and then overland drive back to Kathmandu.
