Mt Chekijo Peak Climbing is one of the least climbed trekking peaks in Nepal. It is located at the elevation of 6,257meters above sea level in the Gaurishankar mountain region in Dolkaha district. The recognized route for trekking is Shigati -Simigaon-Beding- Chekigo Base Camp and ascends the summit. We follow the trails that undulate between ridge and river-crossings past ancient rhododendron, oak and pine forests interspersed with terraced fields adjoining the numerous villages of the Rolwaling region. Many suspension bridges across gorges help shorten the climb. Views of magnificent peaks entertain us all the time along the trails. After Beding we reach the last settlement of the Rolwaling valley, it is simply a summer pasture locally called Kharka of Na village. At Beding we spend one extra day for acclimatization and exploration spectacular glacier and terminal moraine.
The climbing permit for Mt Chekijo was first granted in 2002 and since then Mt Chekijo has had few attempts less than 100 till this date. Bruce Normand from the United Kingdom and Oliver Von Rotz from Switzerland were the first to climb Chekijo peak in the year 2005.

Today we walk along the river, and then continue on the flat land. We cross several streams and jungles with varieties of orchid, rhododendron and other vegetation. On the way we cross the suspension bridge and reach Jagat, a small township with people belonging to different ethnic groups.
At first, we follow the normal flat path, then the trail climbs up and down through the jungle. The trail follows the river bank. As the valley narrows, we cross the suspension bridge over the river. A steep climb takes us to the Sherpa village of Simigaon, situated on the terrace of the mountainside. The village is mostly inhabited by Buddhists and there are also a few Hindus.
We pass by some Sherpa settlements. On a clear morning the views of Mt Gaurishankar above the Rolwaling Valley looks great. From the ridge top at Gyalche, we continue our walking towards Beding village. The trail gently ascends a rocky, wooded ridge with beautiful pine forests. We again descend to the river of Rolwaling Khola (river) and stay overnight at Gyalche.
Our trail ascends uphill through different varieties of plants and Rhododendron trees. We continue our trek along the left bank of the Rolwaling Khola (river). Continuing along the deep river valley, we arrive at a tributary river from Gaurishankar. Here we enjoy the fantastic views of Mt Gaurishankar. The trail rises further until we come across an easy and relatively flat terrain. Finally, we arrive at the Sherpa village of Beding located by the river.
We spend one extra day for acclimatization at Beding. Today we will walk around Beding village, the major Sherpa village in the Rolwaling area, situated in a narrow gorge enlivened somewhat by its well-positioned Buddhist monastery and has about thirty-six houses including a school funded by the Hillary Trust.
We trek to the Chekigo base camp which is surrounded by superb high mountain scenery. Here, your climbing guide will give you some briefings about the peak which you are going to climb next day morning.
Early morning we climb to Chekigo Peak. The snow slopes lead us to the highest ridge, using fixed ropes. From the Chekigo summit, you will enjoy the fantastic views of the Khumbu peaks including Everest, Makalu and many other peaks. After successful summit we descend to Col and then to base camp. It takes 10 days for climbing and summit the peak.
There is no such guarantee that we can get quite a favorable weather especially on our planned day for the Chekigo summit, so this day is used as a contingency. If weather becomes exceptionally unfavorable, we have to postpone the program of summiting the peak. Sometimes somebody in our group may get some problems in acclimatizing well enough; then the day can be used in that suitation as well.
From base camp we walk down to lower altitude. We feel little cold while descending through lower altitude terrain. We explore beautiful grazing pastures and potato growing farms along the trail. We set up our camp on a grassy field and relax to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty. Overhead beyond the valley you can see majestic summit of Chobutse (6689 m).
After breakfast we begin the trek climbing up and down through the jungle. The trail follows the river bank. As the valley narrows, we cross the suspension bridge over the river. A steep downhill walk takes us to the Sherpa village of Simigaon, situated on the terrace of the mountainside. The village is mostly inhabited by Buddhists and there are also a few Hindus.
Today we walk along the river, and then continue on the flat land. We cross several streams and jungles with varieties of orchid, rhododendron and other vegetation. On the way we cross the suspension bridge and reach Jagat, a small township with people belonging to different ethnic groups.
