Overview

Ombigaichan (6340m) is a rarely climbing peak in Mahalangur Himalayan range of the Everest region. It is approximately 2.4 km away from  Mount Ama Dablam. It is the well-hidden peak and the approach is not easy, although it is located along the famous Everest base camp trekking route. The climbing permit was first issued in 2002. The normal route to Ombigaichan Base Camp begins at Lukla and follows Namche Bazaar up to Ama Dablam base camp. From this base camp, we reach the base camp of Mt. Ombigaichen for climb and summit. Those trekkers who have a passion for climbing and in good physical condition can easily set their foot onto the top with the support of our Sherpa climber. The natural treasure of the Everest region is extremely rewarding.

The rhododendron forests that bloom in Spring, traditional villages of Sherpa community, lush meadows, roaring river, glacial lakes, and Buddhist monasteries add extra charm to this region and make one of the best destinations to explore. From the summit of Ombigaichan, one can enjoy the panoramic view of the Himalayan mountain range that includes Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Baruntse, Ama Dablam and many other peaks. The best season for Ombigaichen peak climbing is from March to May in spring and September to December in autumn. For more information, please contact us.

  • A very early morning wake up and transfer to the domestic airport to board our flight to Lukla. We take off to our destination on a 35 min scenic mountain flight to Lukla. After a cup of tea at local Lodge in Lukla we are treading on the legendary “Everest Highway” which heads downwards through the alpine valley following the “Dudh Kosi” or milk river (named after its milky colour from glacial silt). We reach Phakding after 3hrs walk and end our first day here.

  • The next day we will be walking mostly uphill through the alpine valleys. We will be crossing Dudh Kosi River a few times before we reach Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital of the Khumbu region. On a clear day you get views of Everest, Lhotse, Thamserku, Kusum Kangru, Kwangde and Taweche on the way to Namche.

  • Acclimatization is important before proceeding to higher altitudes. This is the first acclimatization day in Namche bazaar that everyone should make into their trekking itinerary. You can explore the important sites around or relax in the lodge.

  • Today we will continue our trek to Khumjung. We start with a steep one-hour climb to the Shyangboche airstrip (3790m), from where we will slowly ascent towards Khunde passing numerous chorten (stone Buddhist monuments). From Khunde we follow the trail eastwards to Khumjung, the largest Sherpa village in Khumbu, at the foothills of the sacred peak Khumbila. From Khumjung we can enjoy views of Mt Everest. We stay overnight at the lodge in Khumjung.

  • Our route of today to Tengboche makes small ups and downs up to Kenjoma, and joins the trail from Khumjung just before a collection of mani stones. The views of Everest and Ama Dablam are wonderful. We pass the small settlement of Sanasa from where the trail drops towards Phunki Thanga (3250m). From here the trail climbs steeply through forests and around mani stones as it follows the side of a hill to the saddle on which the monastery of Tengboche sits at 3870m. The view from here is rightly deemed to be one of the world’s most magnificent. Kwangde (6187m), Tawachee (6542m), Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse (8501m), Ama Dablan, Kantega and Thamserku provides an inspiring panorama of Himalayan giants. • Leaving Tengboche we will descend down all the way through rhododendron and conifer forest enjoying beautiful natural scenery. Overnight at lodge in Namche Bazaar.

  • It will be a long walk from Namche Bazaar to Lukla .From Namche, we will descend steeply back to the Dudh Kosi river and continue our way past the national park checkpoint at Monjo. The trail then continues towards Lukla, where we will reconfirm our flight tickets for the next day and spend the night at the lodge in Lukla.

  • This morning you will transfer to Lukla airstrip for your flight back to Kathmandu. The 40 minute flight to Kathmandu usually leaves early morning from Lukla but it depends on the weather condition of the day. Upon arrival in Kathmandu the rest of your day is free to do your own things.
