Overview

There are many homeless street children living in Nepal. These children are deprived of education and a number of them end up working as child laborers in factories, restaurants or hotels, with others turning to drugs whilst living on the streets. Trek Himalayan works close with a orphan home to bring light and happiness into the lives of children who have been orphaned because they are HIV+ or whose parents have died from AIDS.

Some of these children have been fortunate enough to find their way into orphanages or children’s shelters. However, most of these shelters are poorly funded, under-staffed and in need of support.

Our volunteers will have the opportunity to become part of the orphanage.  Volunteers assist the staff by organizing various activities for the children that will allow them to share their own passions and talents.  The activities include teaching basic English, planning educational games, and leading any range of sports, art, dance, and other creative activities. For real growth to occur with the children it is necessary to establish a bond of trust between them and the volunteers. Without that we can wind up doing more harm than good.

As a Trek Himalayan volunteer, s/he will have a once-in-a-lifetime experience not only as a teacher, but also as a mentor and a friend to the warm and loving children s/he will meet at orphanage
