Nepal is still rooted in agriculture and Trek Himalayan has been promoting the bio-dynamic, organic, permaculture and sustainable agriculture principles in rural areas especially for poor and marginalized communities of the country. We are passionate about community development and to inspire achieving good returns in organic farming. In Organic Farming and Permaculture Program volunteers can gain hands-on experience by helping farmers and local communities cultivate and harvest organic crops, vegetables, fruits, herbs through sustainable farming methods. Staying on village farms, volunteers will have opportunities to learn more about organic farming without using toxic pesticides or fertilizers, preparing compost, controlling pests through organic methods and preparing organic liquid fertilizers etc. They can participate in the seasonal and daily rounds of the farm and household and experience rural Nepali lifestyles and practice Nepali language. Moreover, they may also learn to how to milk buffaloes, plowing the terraced fields, churn butter, grind turmeric and wheat flours, prepare spicy chutneys (pickles), and learn how to make home style Nepali dal bhat.
