In terms of scenery and diverse culture, no other trekking regions in Nepal can compete with this region. Prior to beginning the trek one can visit Gorkha’s old Royal palace and its fort, Gorakhnath and Kali Hindu temples and enjoy the mesmerizing views of the surrounding valleys, and the Manaslu Himalayan range on a clear day. It was King Prithvi Narayan Shah of Gorkha, the founder of Modern Nepal, who unified the whole country 250 years ago. It is one- hour steep walk of 1500 steps uphill from Gorkha Bazaar to reach Gorkha’s old Royal palace. This palace is said to have been built by King Ram Shah of the then Gorkha state of Nepal. This palace is one of the most stupendous examples of Nepalese architecture. It was in 1750 King Prithvi Narayan Shah launched his campaign to unify the whole Nepal from this Royal palace.
Gorkha region was the epicenter of the 7.9 magnitude earthquake 25th April 2015, that destroyed almost 90% home and more than 95% of the schools. After the earthquake, most of the houses and schools are yet to be rebuilt and drinking water supply system is to be renovated and maintained. International volunteers are still in high demand to work in school rebuilding projects
All the treks in Gorkha region are categorized as easy to strenuous suitable for any age group. The northern trekking route provides close up views of the mountains of Manaslu (7945 m.), Himalchuli, Buddha Himal (6674 m.) with a visit to Mu Gompa, Dhephyudonma Gompa, Rachen Gompa, Gonhgye Gompa and many other sights. Manaslu Base Camp with Larkya Pass is one of the classic treks in Gorkha region.
