Langtang Region Treks

Langtang is the third most popular trekking region in Nepal. Being located just 130 km northeast of Kathmandu, it is easily accessible by road. Yet, like most mountain regions of Nepal, it remains relatively less developed compared to the popular Annapurna and Everest regions. This beautiful region offers an opportunity for the trekkers to view nearly the entire range of the Himalayas from Mt. Annapurna in the west to Mt. Makalu in the east

Makalu in the east and to explore high Himalayan mountain passes, unspoiled valleys and diverse ethnicity and cultures (especially those of Tamang and Sherpa communities.) Most of the Tamang  and Sherpa villages are enriched  in Buddhist culture and people living in traditional lifestyles. Both these ethnic groups of people follow ancient religious practices, wear unique costumes very similar to those of Tibetans of Tibet. This region was the most affected in 2014’s earthquake but now everything is normal.

The scenery in the region is excessively beautiful, and the trekking journey is more adventurous as the area is explored only by fewer trekkers to date. To the west of Langtang lies Ganesh Himal.  Langtang valley, Gosainkunda Lake and Helambu are the popular landmarks in the Langtang region. In the Langtang National Park, trekkers will find abundant in temperate and sub-alpine vegetation. Wildlife includes deer, monkey, Tahr, and Pika along with various species of migratory birds. The park is Nepal’s first Himalayan National Park set up in 1971.

Tamang and Sherpa villages, Lake Gosainkunda, and the Alpine Yak Pasture of Kyanjing Gompa are the other highlights of the region. Over the years Lake Gosainkunda has become one of the sacred pilgrimage sites for many Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims as well as for Shamans and Western visitors seeking spiritual solace. Crossing over the Laurebinayak Pass at an elevation of 4,620m with its fantastic views of the Tibetan mountains is breathtaking. This is an area to explore if one wishes to experience the ultimate in Himalayan splendor without the crowds that pack the Everest and Annapurna regions.

Most of the trekking routes in the Langtang region are well served with teahouses and best cuisine. A trekking journey to the Langtang valley offers an opportunity to explore the Tamang villages, one can climb over small peaks and visit glaciers at a more comfortable elevation than other trekking regions. There are 3 popular lakes – Gosainkunda (4,380 m), Parvatikunda, and Dudhkunda one can explore during the trek in the Langtang region. Langtang Circuit trekking passing through Ganja La is the most difficult and challenging in Nepal. Syabrubesi is one of the most convenient treks starting point after 8 hours long drive from Kathmandu.
