Manaslu is an isolated region situated in the west-central part of Nepal and considered to be one of the finest areas for challenging treks. Opened in 1991, this spectacular region is naturally and culturally fascinating. The views of Mount Manaslu and other neighboring peaks above 6,500 meters are clearly seen from Larkya La Pass. Much of treks in the Manaslu region pass through the snow bound Larkya La pass (5,106m) which is the highest point of the trek. The Manaslu trekking route covers an area of 177 km goes round the Manaslu massif over the pass down to the Annapurna area. Manaslu region could be an alternative to the Annapurna region.
The major highlights of Manaslu region is its high altitude glacier lakes, fascinating flora and fauna, cultural diversity and richness and waterfalls. Upper Manaslu region is of strong Tibetan influence. The inhabitants of Upper Budhi Gandaki area are called Nupri, who are originally descendants from Tibet. At Samagoan (3450m) one can visit the glacial green lake of Birendra, before crossing over Samdo, close to the Nepal/Tibet border. Here, we find Buddhist monasteries with Tibetan monks engaged in religious practices.
Manaslu Conservation Area which covers 1,663 square kms of the Manaslu area is managed by the National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC) of Nepal. Three major treks such as 23 days Manaslu Circuit Trek, 27 days Manaslu Rupina La Pass Trek and 21 days Manaslu Circuit Trek that we have proposed in our website entail challenging walk on mountain trails and therefore one should have stamina with good cardiovascular fitness. All these treks are perfect for those looking for an escape from the day to day busy lives. They begin in Arughat Bazaar following an ancient salt-trading route along the Budhi Gandaki River and ends in Khudi or Bhulbhule or Syange. All these treks require a special trekking permit to walk all the way through the Manaslu region from starting to the ending point. The best time for Manaslu Round Trek is in spring and in the autumn.
