Druk Path Trek, this is an excellent choice of short trekking which can be completed within 6 days. The trails pass through the chain of mountains which separates two districts, Paro & Thimphu. This is a classic walk along high, windy ridges, past ruined forts, which long ago guarded against Tibetan invasion. Although the route is sparsely inhabited there are wonderful lakes teeming with fish and the area is famous for its spectacular rhododendron forests which bloom in Spring.
The views of the Himalayas can be seen in late autumn and winter. You will be camping at the side of the glacial lakes and pastures used by the semi- nomadic people. In Thimphu you will visit monasteries, dzongs and other historical places.
Arrive at the Tribhuwan International Airport where you will be welcomed by Trek Himalayan representative and transferred to your Pre-booked hotel. The rest of the afternoon is free until evening when you’ll enjoy a welcome drinks with your guide and introduce to each other. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Your guide will meet you at your hotel in the morning to begin your city tour of Kathmandu. You will visit the Boudhanath temple, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal, Pashupatinath, a Hindu pilgrimage site, and possibly view cremation ceremonies along the banks of the Bagmati River and continue drive to Patan Durbar Square to take in ancient Nepalese architecture and end your tour after a lunch. Then, you will visit the Patan museum. Overnight in Kathmandu.
After breakfast you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for the flight to Paro. After completing the visa formalities at the Paro airport you will be received by our Bhutan’s representative and transferred to the hotel. While driving through the picturesque Paro valley with its quaint clusters of hamlets amid terraced paddy fields you will see by the sight of white-domed peak of the sacred Mt. Jhomolhari that looms overhead. The rest of the day is at leisure to explore the town of Paro and its markets. Dinner and overnight in hotel.
After breakfast, we will drive you to the trailhead to commence a hike to Taktsang monastery through beautiful pine forest. The hike which is all the way uphill takes about 2 to 3 hours. Horses can be arranged with an extra payment. The monastery clings to a huge granite cliff 800 meters from the Paro valley. It is believed that the great saint Padmasambhava came in the 7th century on a flying tigress and meditated in a cave for 3 months. The demons were subdued who were trying to stop the spread of Buddhism and converted the Paro valley into Buddhism. During the end of the 17th century a monastery was built on the spot where the saint meditated and it is a pilgrimage site for every Bhutanese to visit once in their life time. Stroll back to hotel in Paro.
Today is rather a short trekking day so you can relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of the Paro valley. The hike is gradually uphill through pine forest and few villages. Camp will be next to a Dzong which has been renovated recently. There is very interesting stories about the Dzong. Overnight at camp.
Today the trek begins uphill through huge rhododendron trees. You may encounter yak herders during the winter season. Overnight at camp.
The trail follows the ridge and on clear weather you will have perfect view of the mountains. The path descends for some time and camp will be near the lake at 3600 meters. The lake is filled with giant salmon trouts.
Today the trail takes you through dwarf rhododendron shrubs passing two lakes. After passing the second lake we will ascend gradually. From the top you can enjoy the majestic view of Mt. Gangkar Punsum, 7520 m, highest mountain in Bhutan. Then we follow a level trail for one and a half hour till we again make a steep descent to Phajoding camp at 3500 m. At night you can see Thimphu city glittering in a bowl shaped valley.
Today is the easiest day of trekking. Three hours all the way downhill through pine forest. Upon arrival at Motithang, our transport will drive you back to the Hotel. Rest of the time you will be free to stay on your own. Overnight at hotel.
After breakfast we go sightseeing tour of Memorial Chorten of late king, National Library, Painting School, National Library, Handicrafts Emporium and walk around Thimphu downtown for shopping. If you are lucky, you may visit weekend market on Saturday or Sunday. After lunch we drive to Paro en-route visit to Simtokha Dzong and continue drive following the Thimphu River until Chuzom (Confluence) and taking the direction toward Paro.
After the spectacular flight back to Kathmandu the rest of the day you are free to relax in Kathmandu or to go shopping.
